Updated Weekly

Bato is a collectible card game that combines grid-based strategy tabletop interaction, the freedom of deckbuilding and trading found in TCG giants, and more complex systems such as chaotic events, religion, trade, and kitchen table politics found in modern day role-playing games.

All of this is designed to exist in a compact format. You can play the whole game with just your deck and some D6 dice.

Batoranga is still in its infancy, and relies on crowdfunding to move forwards. Patreon supporters who own Tabletop Simulator on Steam can play the game online with friends.

Physical cards are locally sold, but Patreon supporters will get any new collections via mail.

What is Batoranga?

  • A rules system for chaotic growth - Most rules are defined by the cards, and you choose those yourself. Grab a storage card with double gold capacity, grab a base with legs, establish a democracy and vote to ban crabs for some reason.

  • Be any amount of players - When more players join, the battlefield simply gets bigger.

  • Open help resources - Players have access to a searchable codex for rules and abilities, a player hub for guides and media, and a community discord server for learning and playing the game.

  • Co-design with the community - The developers will collect data and listen to the players. As a crowdfunded passion project, the primary goal is to not have choices be driven by a need for unhealthy monetary growth.

  • A simple but open goal - A player loses the game when their base is destroyed, how you win is up to you.

  • An infinitely expanding grid - The "board" is made up of cards. A tile with no "land" on it is just sea. Build out infrastructure, build and destroy lands, make boats, vehicles, castles, turrets, control the map how you want to.

  • No preset resource route - Bato does not lock you into having any specific type of "energy" or "resource", you can add and ignore what you feel like. The game also allows you to simply steal what you want from your enemies.

  • Friendly fire: on - You can attack your own units, blow up your own base, heal enemies, most cards do not discern between friend or foe.
